Cavallo, J.
A study of leopard behaviour and ecology in the Seronera valley, Serengeti National park
1993  SWRC Serengeti Wildlife Research Centre Scientific Report: 33-43

This project was undertaken to provide Tanzanian wildlife managers with data on population density and dynamics in a 150 km2 area of the Seronera Valley where its resident leopards (_Panthera pardus_) attract numerous tourists annually. Actual leopard density in the study area are compared with estimated density using a method devised by a recent IUCN study. AdditionaI data on seasonal ranging patterns, diet, and intra- and interspecific relations are discussed as is anecdotal information on leopard infanticide in the study area. The possible deleterious effects of infanticide on cub survivorship in areas adjacent to Park boundaries where legal trophy-hunting of leopards is allowed and recruitment of adults from within the Park boundaries to replace those cropped by hunting are considered and recommendations for future study are offered.
