Douglas, E.M.
Significance of the feline leukemia comples in exotic cats
  Conference Proceeding

The Feline Leukemia Complex In domestic cats is exactly what its name implies in that it is a very complex group of disease processes which can range from non-regenerative anemias to neoplasms such as - lymphosarcomas. At present this complex in domestic cats is the cause of more concern among breeders and individual cat owners and the subject of more research than probably any other disease in the history of feline medicine. With the recent death of a male lion at the Memphis Zoo from a splenic lymphosarcoma, the question arose as to what relationship, if any, did this tumor have to the leukemia Complex. Subsequent correspondence with several major zoos across the United States led to the belief that no one was really sure of the answer to this question and would be interested in knowing the answer themselves. Unfortunately, there is not a simple solution at this time. In order to better understand the problems associated with the question, a brief description of the Leukemia Complex is necessary.
