Iriomote cat _Felis iriomotensis_

About the size of a domestic cat, the Iriomote cat is approximately 20-23,5 in (50-60 cm) long and weighs 6.5-10 lb (3-4.5 kg); the female is smaller than the male. Its dark brown coat is covered with even darker spots that cluster to form almost-solid lines running the length of the body. White markings line both sides of the nose and the area below the eyes. Legs and tail are short, the tail averaging 8-12 in (20-30 cm) in length. Mainly a nocturnal hunter, the Iriomote cat preys on water birds, small rodents, crabs, and fish, especially mud skippers; if active during the day, it preys on skinks and flying foxes. It is a good climber and swimmer and may also hunt in the water. Home range is Approximately one sq mi (2.5 sq km) and overlaps the ranges of other cats.
