Study of lesser cats in eastern India
1983  Full Book

The lesser cats in India play a significant role in the complex food chain of forest ecosystems and their status indicates the forests' state of health. Unfortunately their numbers are declining and immediate attention needs to be celled to their conservation. Four species in eastern India appear to be particulary vulnerable: the leopard cat, marbled cat, golden cat and fishing cat. WWF-India and the Zoological Survey of India, with support from WWF/IUCN, are carrying out a survey in nine states in the area to assess population numbers, determine factors responsible for the cats disappearance and formulate conservation measures.
