If one speaks of the lynx, one usually thinks of a bloodthirsty, cruel beast, of a scourge of the game population, of an almost superstitiously feared enemy of peacefully grazing flocks of sheep on the pastures. Even man shall not be safe from the lynx jumping down from trees. These ideas are, as we will see in a moment, fundamentally wrong.
