This is a report on the past and present status of the Asiatic lion, its distribution, life history, behavior, and role in culture and mythology. Prehistoric accounts are discussed, and habitat preferences and differences to African lions are identified. The report further contains a description of Gir Sanctuary and the opportunities it presents for ecotourism. The last chapter deals with the history of lion hunting in Africa and India. |
