Bauer, H.
Lion conservation in West and Central Africa - Integrating Social and Natural science for Wildlife Conflict Resolution around Waza National Park, Cameroon
2003  Full Book

Biodiversity loss due to species extinction is a major environmental problem. Even sceptics of environmental degradation agree that the global ecosystem is undergoing biological impoverishmentm although they may differ from mainstream environmentalists as to how serious that is. Critics object to the subjectivity of speculations on extinction rates, but most authors agree that humankind accelerates the extinction of species at a rate of between 1000 and 10.000 times the rate of background extinction, thereby losing for ever the ecological, economic and spiritual functons of these species.
