The African Wildcat,_ Felis silvestris libyca_, thought to be the ancestor of the domestic cat, has long been considered as a species, distributed from Africa to Western Asia. Recently, this taxon has been included, as a subspecies, in the species Felis silvestris, whose distribution thus includes whose distribution includes Europe.
