The geographical region of Caucasus, including the countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and south of European Russia, is located within the Caucasus Biodiversity Hotspot and a ùvulnerableù Ecoregion as identified by WWF and Conservation International. The rarest mammalian species of this region is the Persian leopard which is listed as ùendangeredù in the national Red Data Books and in 2002 IUCN Red List of Threatend Species.
