Assessment of western Austria as potential habitat for the lynx _(Lynx lynx_)
2002  Conference Proceeding

A habitat evaluation procedure was developed using GIS technology to evaluate potential distribution patterns of the Lynx (Lynx lynx) in western Austria. Ecological and anthropological conflicts connected with a possible re-colonisation were considered by combining a habitat model with data about life stock, housing areas, streets and other parameters. 59 % (11 356 km2) of the study area could be identified as suitable lynx habitat. This area was divided into 6 so called 'Lynx Management Zones'.
