The settlement of the lynx,_ Lynx lynx_ (Linn, 1758) in Slovenia
1977  Zeitschrift fr Jagdwissenschaft (23(1)): 30-40

In 1973 an experimental lynx colony was made in Slovenija (Yugoslavia). The Kocevje region, an area of about 100,000 ha, was chosen as the starting point. After being held in quarantine for 2 mo., 3 male and 3 female lynx were released in the hunting ground. Three years after their release, traces of the lynx could be found fairly frequently over an area of 60,000 ha. Their numbers were estimated to have risen to 15-17. Four young were born in 1974 and 5 in 1975. Of 182 roe deer found dead, 24% had been killed by lynx: of 170 red deer, 7% had died in the same way. The lynx, as the sole large wild predator present, is apparently suitable for the colonization of hunting grounds in central Europe.
