Stehlik, J.
Distribution and conservation of the lynx_ Lynx lynx_ (Linnaeus, 1758), in Czechoslovakia
1979  Casopis Slezsk‚ho zemsk‚ho muzea, Opava (28(1)): 81-86

Literature on the history of the lynx's distribution in Czechoslovakia and on legal measures for its protection is briefly reviewed. The lynx is protected year-round in Bohemia and Moravia. It can be hunted from Sept. 16-Feb. 28 in Slovakia, but the population has decreased in recent years. A study of reproduction and postnatal development previously conducted at the Ostrava Zoo indicated that the period during which the lynx is protected in Slovakia is insufficient for the young to reach a state of independence from the mother. Total protection would be more effective, if only for an experimental period.
