Prey depletion as a critical determinant of tiger population viability | |
1999 Book Chapter | |
Earlier optimism among conservationists about saving the tiger (Mountfort 1981; Jackson 1990) has now given way to a more realistic perception that the species continues to decline over most of its range. Recent predictions that wild tigers will be virtually extinct by the turn of the century (e.g. Jackson 1995) have generated broad media coverage. Despite wide public interest in Tigers, causes of the tiger's decline have been poorly studied. |
