Successful Re-introductions of Large Carnivores - what are the secrets? | |
1997 Full Book | |
There are many aspects that are important for the successful re-introduction of large carnivores. The IUCN/SSC Re-introduction Specialist Group (RSG) has developed guidelines which provide a protocol for planning and implementing successful re-introduction projects. Large carnivores pose special problems when they are candidates for a re-introduction project as they can pose a danger to both humans and livestock. In most cases the support of local communities living adjacent to a re-introduction site is necessary for the successful outcome of a project. |
