Impact of lynx on numbers and behaviour of roe deer
2004  Full Book

This study focuses on the impact of lynxes on their principal prey, the roe deer. In the last years, observations of roe deer became scarcer in some regions of Switzerland and France. This could be due to the reintroduction of lynxes in the Swiss Alps and the Jura massif. To explain scarcer observations, two hypotheses are outlined in this study: (1) the lynx has a direct impact on roe deer populations or (2) the lynx provokes a changing in the behavior of roe deer, making its observation more complicated. Through a literature study, the author could confirm that the lynx does not influence roe deer populations when the number of lynxes is low and the number of roe deer is high. Furthermore, it appears that the behavior of roe deer is influenced by lynxes.
