Capture of five lions for telemetric tracking
2004  Full Book

Between April 30 and May 14, 2004, five adult lions (two males and three females) were captured in the eastern zone of Zakouma National Park (Chad) and fitted with VHF collars. This lion capture operation is the second of its kind in French-speaking Africa, a similar experiment having been conducted in Cameroon. The five individuals equipped with radio collars can now be tracked by radio telemetry, from the ground (throughout the dry season) or from the air (during the dry and rainy seasons). Telemetric tracking will allow to gather information on their territory and home range, their possible movements outside the national park, their movements in relation to the and prey resources, as well as on their social organization. It will also participate also to enrich the photographic database created within the framework of the of the park's lions.
