Present distribution of the Lynx (_Lynx lynx_) in the northern Vosges (France) and in the Palatinat (Germany)
1995 Ciconia (19): 133-144
Present distribution of the Lynx (_Lynx lynx_) in the northern Vosges (France) and in the Palatinat (Germany): To the north of the Vosges mountains, a wide forested area of about 213'000 ha is formed by the junction of the Northern Vosges (France) and the Palatinat (Germany). In that area, 94 data were collected. According to these data, the lynx has been present since 1989 but the setting and the development of a population in that region is still uncertain. The origin of the presence of the lynx may be due to illegal reintroductions or to the development of the population which was reintroduced in the middle Vosges, 100 km to the south. In the near future, the methods used by the French network of lynx observers should be applied in the Palatinat forests to improve the knowledge on the distribution of the lynx. These data are needed to adapt the orientations of the French reintroduction program in the Vosges. |
