Luedicke, T.
Chronoethology and _Environmental Enrichment_ in zoo biology and the application in the keeping the Carpathian lynx (_Lynx lynx carpathicus_)
2005  Full Book

The objective of the Diplomarbeit was to examine the use of the enclosure in relation to the activity rhythms of lynxes in captivity by the means of chronoethological methods. A total of four adult lynxes (1.3) were continuously observed in Georg von Opel-Freigehege fr Tierforschung e.V. over 61 days. The 24 hour activity rhythms of the animals were registered in direct observation and indirectly with the support of infrared-time-lapse-videorecording. One aim was to try to shift the phases of higher activity of lynxes into daytime hours. By providing environmental enrichment for the lynxes, species-specific behaviour patterns were supposed to be enhanced. The influence on the behaviour by external factors (visitors, keepers, climate) was examined.
