Helminth Fauna of Eurasian lynx (_Lynx lynx_) in Estonia
2004  Journal of Wildlife Diseases (40): 356-360

Thirty-seven carcasses of Eurasian lynx (_Lynx lynx_) collected and examined in Estonia during 1999-2001 had helminths. Parasites identified and their prevalence included _Diphyllobothrium latum _(5%), _Taenia pisiformis_ (100%), _Taenia laticollis_ (41%), _Taenia hydatigena_ (3%),_ Taenia taeniaeformis_ (3%), _Toxocara cati _(68%), and _Trichinella spp_. (22%). The only significant relationships (P=<0.05) between occurrence of helminths and hostage and sex were a greater number of _T.pisiformis_ and _T.laticollis_ in older than in younger male lynx, and older males had a greater number of species of helminth than did younger lynx. Sixty-one fecal samples collected during snow tracking of nine lynx were examined; eggs of _T.cati_ were identified in 38 samples, and _Capillaria _spp. were found in eight samples. This is the first systematic investigation of parasites of lynx in Estonia.
