Bernezat describes cheetah's observations and their signs of occurrence made during field trips in theCentral Sahara between the early 1970's and 2003: ù In 1970, Bernezat received a skin from a cheetah killed near Tahalra. Direct observation of cheetah in Mertoutek Oued. ù In 1974, cheetah direct observation in Sersouf Oued. ù In 1975, cheetah attack on camel reported by a local inhabitant in Atakor ù In 1976, cheetah observation by a religious in Taessa mountain. ù Late 1970's, cheetah attack on goat reported by a local inhabitant in Atakor. ù Late 1980's, cheetah observation by local inhabitant and spoor observation by Bernezat near Assekrem. ù In 1988, cheetah observation by local inhabitant (2) in Tissedwa Oued (Immidir) ù In 1990, cheetah's spoor observations (5) in central Tefedest ù In 2000, cheetah's spoor observation in Aoudjerar Oued. ù In 2001, cheetah observation by local inhabitant in Tanget Oued; cheetah observation by local inhabitant (2) in Tissedwa Oued (Immidir); spoor observation in Ajjer. ù In 2002, cheetah's spoor observations (5) near Telerteba and one direct observation; cheetah observation by local inhabitant in Tassili du Hoggar. ù In 2003, cheetah's spoor observation in Iheren Oued (Thora mountain); cheetah observation by local inhabitant in Tassili du Hoggar. However, because cheetahs are usually mistaken for leopards, some of the cheetah reports made by local inhabitants should be considered with caution.
