Leopard Survey in Caucasus Ecoregion (Northwest) of Iran

For leopard conservation, we set up a survey to find out the situation of leopard in Iran's Caucasus Ecoregion for further planning. This is the report of the leopard survey in Iran's Caucasus ecoregion by a group of international and Iranian experts, the survey took place in Feb 2004. Areas of survey were all the major protected ares within the Caucasus ecoregion: Lysar Protected area, Arasbaran Biosphere reserve and protected area, Kiamaky Wildlife refuge and Marakan Protected area. There are signs of leopard existence in almost all protected areas of the survey, some of the survey team members went further and gave a preliminary leopard population guesstimation for the protected areas in the Caucasus Ecoregion of Iran.
