The current distribution of the wildcat (_Felis silvestris_ silvestris Schreber 1777) in Baselland and adjacent areas
2008  Full Book

In winter 2006/2007, the canton of Basel-Landschaft and the communes in the Leimental and Ltzeltal in the canton of Solothurn were surveyed for the presence of wildcat by hunters. Therefore, 268 poles with valeriana lure were placed in 223 kilometre quares and controlled for around 3 months. Finally, 14 out of 316 hair samples from 10 different raster quares were genetically identified as wildcat. The other hair samples mainly concerned domestic cat. Together with the results of an intensive study in the area of the Blauen, it provides the following picture of the current wildcat distribution: The species ranges from west the whole Blauen chain up to Aesch, the big forest areas Bueberg and Httenboden-Strmen close to Laufen and the forest complex of the Britzkiwald in the Sundgauer Hgelland northwest of Rodersdorf. In the Basel-Landschaft, the wildcat does currently not or only occasionally occur outside of the Laufenthal and the Blauen chain.
