A comparsion of three live capturing devices for lynx: capture efficiency and injuries
1994  Wildlife Society Bulletin (22): 644-650

Lynx were captured in wire box traps, padded jaw foothold traps and Freemont foot snares. Lynx appeared to avoid box traps and leg snares more than foothold traps. The capture rate of box traps and foot snares was about 2/3 that of foothold traps and considered acceptable. Use of foothold traps at temperatures below -8 C resulted in an unacceptable risk of freezing injury. When carefully set, modified foot snares had low risk of all types of injury and were recommended for winter use. Box traps were not recommended for lynx live capture because they had low efficiency, were cumbersome to transport, and were expensive. Our observations indicated foot snares and box traps likely are not effective for capture of wolverine because of low capture rate and efficiency.
