2005  Cat News (43 ): 18-18

The ocelot _Leopardus pardalis_ population within the United States has been listed as endangered by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service since 1982. Only two known breeding populations of ocelots occur within the United States (Laack, 1991). One in Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge located in Cameron County, Texas and the other on two adjacent conservation easements located on a private ranch in Willacy County, Texas. Both of these populations reside within the lower Rio Grande valley of southern Texas.
