Huckschlag, D.
11 years of lynx monitoring in the south of Rhineland-Palatinate - analysis of evidence from 1999 to 2009
2010  Full Book

In 1999 a long-term monitoring was established to gain information about the occurrence and distribution of the lynx in southern Rhineland-Palatinate. The analysis is carried out in accordance with the recommendations for the monitoring of Large Carnivores in Germany (Kaczensky et al. 2009). From 1999 to 2009 297 indications were gathered, 223 of them are categorised as C3 and one indication as C1. C2 indications could not be recorded. On average 60 % of all indications are sightings; 20 % are vocalisations but the seasonal analysis reveals implausibilities (e. g. no accumulation during the mating season). An occurrence is only stated in 2009 based on a C1-proof in a single 100 kmę-grid cell in western Palatinate Forest. The origin and destination of this lynx are discussed. An establishment of lynx territories in the Palatinate Forest is not expected anytime soon.
