Reintroduction - sometimes a conservation problem?
1990 International Zoo News (222): 13-17
There can be no doubt that true reintroduction programmes, if carefully planed, such as the ones for Arabian oryx, Pere David's deer or red wolf, are extremely important species conservation activities: However, with projects which are in fact examples of restocking rather than reintroduction, the situation is more complicated. Many just ignore IUCN's recommendations as to the preservation of the genetic integrity of local populations and subspecies. |
