Notes and records Towards promotion af local tourism: The case of Lake Nakuru National Park in Kenya
2003  African Journal of Ecology (41): 187-189

About 10 years ago, the Kenya Wildlife Service, in conjunction with the management of Lake Nakuru National Park, introduced a package of incentives to instill among local people of attachment to the wildlife resource and to encourage them to visit the park for recreational wildlife viewing during weekends and public holidays under the community service programme. Under this arrangement, the locals paid reduced entry fees and a free bus was provided to take them for game drives within the park. It was also proposed that the community service package be expanded to include an extra bus, showing free educational films to students and the general public in Nakuru municipality, plus giving wildlife conservation lectures to students within the municipality. This study evaluated the attitudes of residents of Nakuru municipality towards these incentives.
