Evidence of Wild Tigers in Southwest China - A Preliminary Survey of the Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve
2008  Cat News (48): 4-6

The tiger is critically endangered throughout Asia and the likelihood of locating a viable wild tiger population in China is rapidly diminishing (Tilson 2004). Yunnan province on the borders to Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar may hold the last promise for the survival of Indochinese tigers _Panthera tigris corbetti_ in southwest China (Seidensticker et al. 1999, Luo et al. 2004). However, a systematic assessment of tigers has not been conducted nor has direct evidence of tiger presence been documented except for several anecdotal reports in the past decade (Su & Zhang 2005, Li & Yang 2002, Hu et al. 1999, Meng et al. 1995, He 1994).
