Paviolo, A.J.
Jaguar (_Panthera onca_) density in the Paranaense rainforest: its relationship with prey availability, hunting pressure and coexistence with the puma (Puma concolor)
2010  Full Book

The Green Corridor of Misiones Province and the neighboring areas of Brazil hold the southernmost jaguar_ (Panthera onca)_ population in the world and one of the three populations that still subsist in Argentina. The objective of this thesis was to estimate the size of this jaguar population and evaluate the effect of the availability of prey, poaching pressure and the potential competition with the puma in its population density. I evaluated the abundance of jaguars, pumas and its prey through five camera traps surveys conducted in three areas with different poaching pressure. I evaluated the perception of the rural inhabitants about the jaguar and the number of animals killed through interviews with people and key informants of the north Misiones Province.
