Hunting tourism has been viewed as the most important rural development activity to reduce human impact in the alpine areas. Hunting tourism started legally in 1977 and showed a rather slow progress until the late 1990s. In the last ten years, however, there has been a remarkable increase. In areas where planned and controlled hunting is organized, the share taken out of the hunting fees constitutes a major incentive and encourages villagers. However, many areas have considerable problems and have not made the expected progress due to the lack of supervision, control and qualified personnel. |
