The Lynx
2010  Book Chapter

This chapter examines the relationship between humans and the smallest of Britain's three top predators. Until very recently, the Eurasian lynx _Lynx lynx_ was seen as a victim of the changing British climate, vanishing from the island several millennia ago long before a cultural association with humans could have been forged. Recent radiocarbon dating, however, has forced a dramatic reappraisal of this view. It is now possible to detect the historical footprints of Britain's most elusive large carnivore, not only in the fossil record, but also from linguistic and literary evidence.
