Scent Dog Monitoring of Amur Tigers-II
2003  Full Book

We used dogs, trained to identify individual tigers by scent in scats, to monitor tigers on Lazovsky State Nature Zapovednik. We collected tiger scats during monthly field surveys and used our dogs to identify individual tigers from those scats. Using this method, we are monitoring tigers in our area, which is a key habitat for tigers in the Russian Far East. Our project began in 2001, when the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation awarded us a _Save the Tiger Fund_ grant (Scent Dog Monitoring of Amur Tigers, grant 2001-0152-001). Our goal in 2002-2003 was to maintain the continuity of that project, perfect our dog-training program, and proceed in evaluating our anti-poaching efforts. This is a summary of what we have accomplished this year.
