Anaesthesia and immobilisation in zoo mammals and birds with medetomidine-ketamine combination, and reversal with atipamezole
1996  Conference Proceeding

The authors describe the immobilisation and/or anaesthesia of some zoo mammals and birds. The advantages of the combination medetomidine-ketamine - quality of the anaesthesia, reversibility by atipamezole, usefulness for most of the zoological groups, alternative to the etorphine-acepromazine combination in hoofstock - are stressed. The main disadvantage is probably the actual cost. Dosages for more of 40 taxa of mammals and 40 taxa of birds are given in two tables.
