Feline leukemia virus, immunodeficiency virus, coronavirus and panleukopaenia virus seroprevalence in free-living and captive wildcats _(Felis silvestris) _from Spain
2002  Conference Proceeding

The European wildcat (Felis silvestris) is a threatened species in Europe and their population has been studied by many authors, however the authors could not find published references on infectious diseases of wildcats in Spain. Two different European wildcat populations,18 captive and 7 free-living animals, were sampled between 1999-2002. Feline leukaemia virus, inmunodeficiency virus, coronavirus and panleukopaenia virus antibody status and feline leukaemia and panleukopaenia antigen detection were performed on those samples. Although the sample size is very small, the study shows the situation of the free-living European wildcat population in Spain being similar to that of the situation in other European countries.
