Morbillivirus infections in German Zoos: Prevalence in carnivores and vaccination trials in Pantherid cats
2000  Conference Proceeding

Canine distemper (CD) is known to occur in canids while canine distemper virus (CDV) appears to infect domestic cats inapparently and presumably all felidae. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the potential risk of CDV infections in various carnivore species in German zoos by use of a neutralizing peroxidase linked antibody assay (NPLA). A group of 31 CDV-nAb-positive animals was discovered among a total of 173 with 14 tigers, 3 lions, 2 leopards and 1 snowleopard, 1 jaguar, 2 pumas, 1 wolf, 1 bush-dog, 1 dhole, 1 maned wolf, 3 ursids and 1 lesser panda being seropositive.
