Characterisation of feline parvovirus sequences from captive and free-ranging carnivores
1999 Verhandlungsbericht des.Internationalen Symposiums ber die Erkrankungen der Zoo- und Wildtiere (39): 313-315
For this study we collected samples from various wild carnivores from different countries for genetic characterisation. Fecal material or formalin fixed tissue samples from one free-ranging red fox _(Vulpes vulpes)_, one free-ranging honey badger _(Mellivora capensis), one captive bat-eared fox _(Otocyon megalotis)_, _four captive cheetahs _(Acinonyx jubatus)_ and a captive tiger _(Panthera tigris) _with symptoms of diarrhea or pathological lesions indicative for a parvovirus infection were examined. A parvovirus infection was confirmed by amplification of parvovirus-DNA in fecal samples or formaline-fixed samples by polymerase-chain-reaction (PCR). The PCR-fragments were cloned and subsequently DNA-sequenced. The PCR primers were designed to enclose regions encoding subtype-specific nucleotides allowing the discrimination of FPV, CPV or the new antigenic types. |
