Budd, J.
International Studbook for the Arabian leopard
2011  Full Book

Studbook data has been compiled from institution records in the form of ISIS data, ISIS Animal Record Keeping System (ARKS) taxon reports, as well as other records provided by institutions and private individuals. The current living population as recorded in the studbook consists of 46.33.3(82) leopards; however, an unconfirmed report suggests that there are now only three animals held at Sana'a Zoo, Yemen and eighteen at Ta'iz Zoo, Yemen. The animals held in Yemen and at Nakhlee Estate are considered as lost to follow up due to lack of communication and participation in the captive breeding program, however, the animals at these institutions have not been excluded from the studbook data as some potential for participation of these animals does still exist. Historically there are 66.48.9(123) animals recorded in the studbook. There are 15 founders and six potential founders. Of the potential founders, two are too old to breed, and four are held in Yemen with little prospect of inclusion in the breeding program. The current gene diversity of this population is 93%.
