Tiger Monitoring Study in Gunung Basor Forest Reserve, Jeli, Kelantan
2007  Full Book

The main objective of this study was to gain insight into the ecology of tigers present in the study area with particular reference to the following parameters: identifying resident tigers in the study area, density of tigers, minimum home range of tigers, activity patterns of resident tigers and prey and relative abundance of tigers, leopards and prey. A trap effort of 2,664 trap-nights yielded a total of 875 wildlife photos comprising 27 different species. The majority of these species were either totally protected or protected under the Protection of Wildlife Act 1972 (Act 76). On the whole, 45 tiger photos, representing 5.1% of the total number of wildlife photos (excluding seven unidentified animals due to unascertainable images), were collected during the nine months (October 2004 - July 2005) of camera-trapping in the Gunung Basor Forest Reserve area. Out of the total number of photos, 89%, 9% and 2% were of wildlife, nil photos and humans, respectively. Based on the number of individual tigers recorded each month, individuals that are likely to be residents were assessed according to their persistency in the study area throughout the nine month study period. Through this evaluation three resident tigers were identified; M1, F2 and F3.
