Geographic variation in the bobcat (_Felis rufus_) in the Southcentral United States
1981  Full Book

Nongeographic and geographic variation among populations of the bobcat (_Felis rufus_) from the southcentral United States (Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Lousiana) were assessed using 23 cranial and three mandibular measurements. A total of 956 adult bobcats (594 males and 361 females) were pooled into 62 grouped localitities. A technique for aging bobcats is discussed. Since males and females showed significant sexual dimorphism, univariate and multivariate analyses of geographic variation wre performed separately for each sex. Three subspecies of _Felis rufus_ (_F.R. baileyi, F.r. texensis_, and_ F.R. floridanus_) were recognized in this geographic region.
