In September of 1986, three enclosures for snow leopards were opened as part of the Himalayan Highlands exhibition. It was because of a successful breeding program for snow leopards at the Bronx Zoo and the knowledge that large populations of endangered species must be maintained that an off-exhibit breeding facility for snow leopards was constructed, in addition to the three new naturalistic exhibits. |
