Ruedi, D.
Zoo Basel - The first breeding success with snow leopards
1984  Book Chapter

The Basel Zoo has kept snow leopards since 11th March, 1970. Although we have kept snow leopards in the Zoo for 13 years, and have put a great effort in breeding the species, we have had very little success. During this time four animals died, two of which were wild caught and the other two were captive born. The longest period a pair has been living together is from 1974 to 1976. During that time two stillbirths were recorded.
