Survey on the dispersal behaviour of a male lynx (_Lynx lynx_) in the border triangle between the German federal states Thuringia, Lower Saxony and Hesse (Untersuchungen zum Dispersionverhalten eines m„nnlichen Luchses (_Lynx lynx_) im Dreil„ndereck zwischen Thringen, Niedersachsen und Hessen)
2012 S„ugetierkundliche Informationen (45): 455-462
We documented the dispersion of a subadult male lynx for about six month by GPS/GSM/VHF-telemetry. Between June and November, the animal moved through an agriculturally modiŸOed landscape south of the Harz lower mountain range. The area is characterized by 54 % agricultural land, 7 % human settlements and transport infrastructure and 24 % forest cover. After the lynx had left the Harz, we obtained 223 out of 478 localizations from habitat structures outside of forest patches larger than one hectare. For each location at open land structures, the vegetation type and vegetation height was recorded and the distance to the next forest cover was measured. Moreover we found 37 prey remains of the lynx and recorded species, sex an age of the preyed animals. The lynx' s high linkage to forest cover was obvious. Nevertheless, we found 79 % of all open land positions on arable land. The lynx was located on non-forested land mainly at nighttime. The animal hunted very successfully at open land structures. Moreover, 16 resting sites of the male were found on agricultural land. |
