The governments of Central America have adopted protection measures for the biodiversity in the region. One of these measures contains the participation of the countries in the Convention on Biodiversity and to be member of the Mesoamerican biological corridor, a regional initiative to maintain the connectivity between protected areas. The project contains the establishment of priority areas for biodiversity conservation and its connectivity in the region. Additionally, the CBM ensues the jaguar corridor project which was approved by the Central American commission for Environment and Development and approved by the Wildlife Conservation Society and the foundation Panthera. This project intends to guarantee the connectivity of jaguar (_Panthera onca_) populations over its whole distribution area. To identify viable jaguar populations, different meetings with jaguar experts were realized to define Jaguar conservation units.
