Recovery of rare large mammal species in northern Eurasia: Problems of their adaptation and reintroduction
2014  Conference Proceeding

The large mammals which recovery demands the development of special approaches and methods to their reintroduction can be divided into two groups: large carnivores (the Siberian tiger, the Amur leopard and the Persian leopard) and hoofed animals (the forest reindeer, the saiga, the Przewalski's horse). Two main issues shall be solved by the recovery of rare species: on which territory should they recover and where to take animals for the reintroduction. The choice of the territory is significantly limited by the economic activity of humans. Specially protected territories do not always correspond to the necessary demands, often the sizes of the areas are even smaller than habitat areas of single animals. An irreplaceable component of the choice territory is its exploration on the existence of feeding resources and infection diseases.
