Koefisien Kawin-dalam Harimau Sumatera (_Panthera tigris sumatrae_) di Empat Kebun Binatang di Jawa
2001  Full Book

Sumatran tigers (_Panthera tigris sumatrae_) are the only Indonesia's _Panthera_ _tigris_ species that still survive. The two sub species from Indonesia, Bali tiger (_Panthera tigris balica_) and Java tiger (_Panthera tigris sondaica_), was entirely disappeared. This is caused by the increasing human needs like farm area and houses, that increase forest clearing and illegal hunting. Those are the causes that resulted in wild animals slowly extinct. This research was conducted at four zoos in Java (Safari Indonesia Park in Bogor, Ragunan zoo in Jakarta, Gembiraloka zoo in Yogyakarta, and Surabaya zoo in Surabaya). The aim of this research is to evaluate the inbreeding coefficient of the tigers at the zoos. The information was calculated from primary and secondary data of Sumatra's tiger that still exist in the research locations. The result of this research showed that all tigers in Java zoos originated from the wild, before they were captived. The ranges of the inbreeding coefficient calculated from tigers present in Ragunan zoo was 0.250-0.375 (0,208 ñ 0,134), Gembiraloka zoo was 0.250 (0.035 ñ 0,094), Safari Indonesia Park and at Surabaya zoo 0,0. This research suggested to control the mating system and should be mentioned the record before the sire and dam were be mated.
